My counseling approach
How I approach Christian counseling
Before focusing on counseling, I spent more than a decade working with adults in church discipleship and small-group leadership. That experience taught me how easily people can agree on their values while talking past one another at home. In our conversations I pay attention to specific examples, invite each person to describe their experience, and help clarify the difference between a request and an expectation. We may work on a difficult conversation one piece at a time. I do not promise quick reconciliation, and I do not ask one person to carry all the responsibility for a relationship. I work from a Baptist Christian background and welcome adults from other Christian traditions. Christian themes of truthfulness, humility, and care for others guide my work. Prayer is offered with your agreement. We consider how a passage relates to the situation in front of us, and make room to discuss interpretations that have been confusing or hurtful.
